The place is inhabited by various types of animals from the Mediterranean climate. The most popular creatures that lives there are horses, flamingos and kingfishers. Furthermore, reserve has 300 avian spieces.

The reserve is located in a specific area. It does include Isono river, portion of shallow sea and some wetland. The Mouth of the River Isonzo is a coastal wetland at the northernmost corner of the Adriatic Sea (and of the Mediterranean Sea) where the vast lagoon system of about 100,000 hectares (which includes the Po river mouth and the lagoon of Venice) meet at some point the first rocky cliffs of the Illyrian limestone area (Classic Karst). In the lower part it widens, covering agricultural surfaces along the river course and more important, a vast area including (from south to north): shallow marine tidal areas with sand/gravel islets, salt marshes, brackish marshes, mudflats (partially covered by eelgrasses carpets), reed beds, riverine woods, recently re-flooded fresh water marshes, plain wood etc.

Animals of Isono estary natural reserve

The reserve has really good influence on climate and enviroment. For example, The Kamar horses by spending their time in shallow waters does truly important function to enviroment in this place. We haven’t had a chance to meet these, but we did a little lesson on these horses.

One of the 300 spieces of birds, are the king fishers from a family, the Alcedinidae, of small to medium-sized, brightly colored birds. They have a cosmopolitian distribution, with most species found in the tropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Oceania, but also can be seen in Europe (For example, in Friulia Gulia Venezia) They can be found in deep forests near calm ponds and small rivers. The family contains 116 species and is divided into three subfamilies and 19 genra. All kingfishers have large heads, long, sharp, pointed bills, short legs, and stubby tails. Most species are tropical in distribution, and a slight majority are found only in forests.

One of the most interesting animals that does live in this reserve are the flamingos. Some people could say that they only live in Africa, although they have population in Friulia Venezia Gulia. The biggest population of flamingos in Italy is located in Sardynia. The pink flamingos frequent mainly lagoons, ponds, mudflats, salt pans or in any case very humid soils, provided that the depth of the water never exceeds the metre, but spotting them is not so obvious. Italy is certainly among the favorite places for these spectacular birds with long legs. The type of flamingo that occurs in these area is the Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus).

Fauna and Flora that occurs in Isono estuary natural reserve makes good enviroment changes and climate is much more healthy.
